Sport

At Esher Church School we are committed to giving our children lots of opportunities to participate in both competitive and non-competitive sporting activities both within and outside of the school day.

We are fortunate to have a large playing field and hard court area, our own heated outdoor swimming pool as well as a recently refurbished hall allowing all of our children to engage in sport.

In PE lessons we aim to team up with specialist coaches in different sporting disciplines to ensure that our children have access to quality provision.  We are fortunate to be situated next door to Esher Tennis Club, meaning our children benefit from access to coaching using their facilities.  We also have excellent links with some of the best local specialist sports providers, such as Surbiton Hockey Club, Sport England and Surrey Football Coaching to ensure that our children have access to the very best sporting provision.

We offer a wide range of co-curricular clubs before and after school; these clubs are open to all.  We have many competitive teams who perform extremely well in sports such as cricket, cross country running, football, hockey, netball, swimming and tag rugby and we also participate in sports festivals to introduce children to new disciplines such as badminton, dodgeball and table tennis.

Sports Premium Funding

Physical education, school sports and physical activity are an important part of life at Esher Church School.

Sports Premium is an annual amount allocated to schools from central government to promote PE, competitive sport and physical activity in primary schools.  Esher Church School received £20,070 in the academic year 2018-19 which allowed us to provide specialist coaching in rugby, cricket, streetdance, Playball and multisports for children across the full age range.  We have also been able to use some of this funding towards our outdoor play project, ensuring that all of our children can engage in active play during break and lunch times.

You can see how we spent our 2018-19 Sports Premium and the impact it has had below:

Impact of Sports Premium 2018-19

In 2019-20 our priorities for Sports Premium funding are:

  • To enable every child from Years 1-6 to have regular tennis coaching with professional coaches from Esher Tennis Club, as well has having the coaches support the development of our own staff in teaching tennis
  • To continue to develop our expertise in delivering streetdance lessons to children of all ages
  • To provide our youngest children with Playball multiskills sessions to develop their sporting skills and instil early confidence in sporting activities
  • To improve our teaching and resources of yoga style activities in PE lessons
