Joshua, one of our Year 6 children, took the initiative to reach out to the editorial team at First News with an idea for an article.
After corresponding with them and developing the piece, his article has now been published in the newspaper. We were very proud to see his work appear in print, particularly as it came about through his own motivation and enthusiasm for writing.
First News is widely recognised as the UK’s leading newspaper for young people and has a weekly readership of more than 2.6 million. It is distributed in schools across the country and aims to engage children with current affairs, journalism and critical thinking, which makes the opportunity to contribute especially exciting for a primary school pupil.
We are so proud of Joshua for already being a published journalist!

We had a fantastic time celebrating World Book Day this week and the school was absolutely buzzing with excitement. From the moment the doors opened, the corridors were filled with colourful costumes
A huge thank you to all those parents/carers and staff members who gave up some of their Saturday to support the ECS Community Day.
From constructing a new Reception scooter shed, cleaning up the swimming pool area and repairing and painting the changing rooms, removing the old climbing frame (so the new one can be installed later this term), cleaning of the solar panels, to painting the staff room - and so much more.
An amazing effort from all who attended!
Thank you!

At ECS we know that a strong school 'community' is one of the most powerful gifts we can offer our children. When our children feel connected to the people and places around them, they grow in confide
Match Funding – An easy way to double our school’s fundraising impact
Did you know that many employers offer match funding as part of their corporate giving programmes? This means that when a parent or carer volunteers at a fundraising event or makes a donation, their company may match the amount—sometimes even doubling it.
Match funding is one of the simplest ways to boost the money raised by our PTA. It doesn’t cost families anything extra, but it can make a huge difference to the projects and resources we’re able to provide for the children.
Companies that commonly offer match funding include banks, supermarkets, large retailers, tech firms, and many national organisations. If you’re not sure whether your employer participates, it’s always worth asking—HR departments are usually happy to help.
If you think your workplace might offer match funding, or if you’d like support with how to approach them, please get in touch with the PTA. A five‑minute conversation could unlock hundreds of pounds for our school.
Together, we can make every fundraising effort go even further for our children.
Have you checked in with your employer to see if you can get match funding for ECS and enhancing your child's education?
