Collective worship is a central part of daily life at Esher Church School. It is an inclusive and invitational space where children and adults come together to explore our Christian vision and values.
Through worship, pupils encounter biblical teachings, engage with stories of faith and reflect on how these relate to their own lives. Worship provides opportunities for spiritual growth, personal reflection and collective celebration.
Children are encouraged to participate actively in worship through prayer, reflection, music, leadership and discussion, helping them develop confidence and an understanding of the role faith plays within our school community.
Collective worship provides a welcoming space for spiritual development, where pupils reflect on life through ‘WOWs’ (moments of awe and wonder), ‘NOWs’ (current experiences and challenges), and ‘OWs’ (concerns and difficulties), encouraging thoughtful personal reflection and growth
Harvest Festival 2026
On Wednesday 7th October, our school community came together to celebrate our annual Harvest Festival. Children, staff and governors gathered with Rev. Jo to sing, give thanks and reflect on the many blessings we share.
As part of our celebration, families generously donated food items to support our local community. All contributions will be sent to Lower Green Community Centre, where they will help families in need.
Thank you to everyone who took part and helped make our Harvest Festival a joyful and meaningful occasion.
16th September 2026
This morning, we were thrilled to welcome Mother Jo, the new rector of Christ Church, Esher, to our collective worship. Mother Jo led our thinking around preparing for new beginnings using Jesus’s new ministry as an example from Matthew 3: 1-17. Mother Jo shared that part of our preparedness is considering how this will impact our community, for example, who we can support through our own unique qualities. Mother Jo reminded us that being uniquely ourselves is a blessing to others and flourishing in our individuality and sharing our gifts, allows us all to shine in happiness.
We then sang, This Little Light of Mine, to remind us that we can all shine within our community.
We finished with a prayer thanking God for our new school year and asking Him to be with us, which Mother Jo read with us.
We are really looking forward to sharing more collective worships with Mother Jo.
Whole School Reflection Mornings
At Esher Church School we have classroom-based Collective Worship mornings where children are given the time and space to pause, reflect and explore our Christian values together. Across the three terms, each morning focuses on one of our three values: Community, Wisdom and Courage.
Through stories, creative activities, quiet reflection and opportunities to share. Children explore what each value means to them and how it can shape who they are, how they relate to those around them, and, for some, their understanding of God or a higher being.
Rooted in our Christian vision to Love One Another, our reflection mornings encourage children to look inward at themselves, outward at those around them, and beyond. They provide a safe space to wonder, ask questions, recognise the challenges life can bring and consider how they can respond with kindness, wisdom and courage.
Twice a year at Esher Church School we step away from the usual rhythm of school for our special Pause Afternoons. These are precious opportunities for our whole school community to slow down, come together and explore these special celebrations.
Through stories, music, art, cooking, nature and a variety of creative materials, we create ‘now and wow moments’ that inspire wonder and encourage children to think inward, outward and beyond.
Rooted in our vision to Love One Another, our Pause Afternoons bring Community, Wisdom and Courage to life. We learn together, listen to one another, celebrate different ideas and perspectives, and allow ourselves the time and space to wonder, question and grow spiritually.
Pause Afternoon are a joyful reminder that learning is not only about what we know, but about who we are becoming and how we choose to live alongside and serve others.

Esher Church School Prayer and Reflection Book
We are delighted to share our Esher Church School Prayer and Reflection Book, created as a whole-school community project. Every child was given the opportunity to contribute a prayer, thought or message. From prayers of thanksgiving and things they are grateful for, to hopes, reflections and words that are important to them.
Every contribution is valued and included, creating a beautiful collection of the voices, thoughts and reflections of our very special school community.
Faith Team July 2026
This week, we were treated to our final collective worship from our current Faith Team, on the theme of Beginnings and Endings. Starting with Bible verses including Jerimiah 29:11 and Matthew 28:19-20 they shared with us their feelings about the end of the school year. Most of them felt a mixture of sadness at leaving what they have enjoyed and excitement as they looked forward to new challenges. They explained our school values can help us to move on: Wisdom to make good choices and Courage to build Community in new situations.
The Faith team said prayers for courage for us all and the ability to make new friends as we move on. They also led us in singing and signing a rousing rendition of Hallelujah Feeling!
Mrs Dunn, who leads the Faith Team, has been immensely impressed and inspired by this group of young people and their courage in sharing their thoughts and their faith with the school throughout the year. (Plus how many Makaton signs they have learnt!)
Each Faith Team member was presented with a Bible verse to encourage them as they move on.

Faith Team Collective Worship April 2026
This week our faith team delivered another fantastic collective worship that they had prepared, on the subject of courage.
They shared Biblical examples of people being afraid and bravely shared some of the things that worried them. The Faith Team told us what they think courage is: being brave in difficult situations, facing your fears and persevering, trying things you’ve not done before and not giving up.
They shared that their family, friends and teachers all give them courage.
We were led in in prayers asking for courage and singing and signing Harbour Creative’s Strong and Courageous, a song chosen by Reuben, one of our Faith Prefects.
The children learnt the Makaton sign for our school value of Courage – it starts inside yourself and then comes out into the world to do good!
Christ Church Esher
At Esher Church School, we consider ourselves blessed to have strong links with our local parish, Christ Church, Esher. Our Reverends visit the school each week to lead Collective Worship, helping us explore Biblical teachings and how these stories can guide us in our everyday lives.
Throughout the year, our children play an active role in the life of the church. Year 1 lead our Christmas Service, while Year 5 lead our Easter Service, giving children opportunities to reflect on the Christian story and think about what it means for us and our local community.
Our families are warmly invited to join Sunday worship and special services throughout the year, including Mothering Sunday and Armistis Day.
Holy Trinity Claygate
At Esher Church School, we are privileged to have strong links with Holy Trinity Claygate. A member of the church joins us each week for Collective Worship, sharing stories and teachings from the Bible and helping us to explore how these can shape the way we live, relate to others and make a difference in the wider community.
Our children also enjoy opportunities to visit Holy Trinity throughout the year. Year 5 take part in ‘Easter Cracked’, an immersive experience exploring the Easter story through quizzes, artwork, a Last Supper experience, music and dance. Our Year 2 children enjoy ‘Christmas Unwrapped’, exploring the Christmas story through crafts and activities. These experiences bring the Bible to life and give all our children wonderful opportunities to learn, reflect, create and celebrate together.
Once a month, we come together for Family Prayers. These special moments give children, families and staff the opportunity to pause and reflect on the journey of learning and life, recognising the experiences that shape us and the people who journey alongside us.
Through prayer, stories and reflection, we explore WOW, NOW and OW moments. Celebrating the moments that fill us with wonder, being present in the here and now, and considering how we can respond with wisdom and courage to the challenges and opportunities life presents.

Christmas Artwork at Guildford Cathedral
Esher Church School loves being part of this special Christmas tradition. Each year, our Art Prefects and talented members of staff come together to share ideas, collaborate and create a beautiful piece of artwork for the Christmas exhibition at Guildford Cathedral.
The exhibition is one of the Cathedral’s most popular annual events, bringing together artwork created by schools across the area. We are always delighted to share our artwork with the wider community and see it displayed alongside other schools from across the Diocese.
