Love One Another
“Love one another as I have loved you.” (John 13:34)
At Esher Church School, the Christian value of Love One Another is at the heart of our vision and lived experience. Inspired by Jesus’ command to love others, we nurture a community where every individual is welcomed, valued and encouraged to flourish. We believe that every person is made in the image of God and therefore deserves dignity, respect and care.
This value is brought to life through our school values of Community, Courage and Wisdom, which guide our relationships, decision-making and learning.
Community
Love enables our community to thrive. We are committed to creating a culture of belonging where everyone feels known, supported and included. Through positive relationships, mutual respect and service to others, pupils learn that they are part of something bigger than themselves and that they have a responsibility to contribute to the wellbeing of others.
By living out love within our community, pupils develop empathy, compassion and a genuine commitment to serving others.
Courage
Love calls us to act with courage. Following the example of Jesus, we encourage pupils to stand up for what is right, challenge injustice and advocate for those whose voices are not always heard. Love gives us the courage to show forgiveness, seek reconciliation and make choices that reflect our Christian values.
Through opportunities for courageous advocacy, pupils learn that love is not passive but active, inspiring them to become agents of positive change in their school, local community and wider world.
Wisdom
Love helps us grow in wisdom. We encourage pupils to reflect deeply on their actions, consider the impact they have on others and make choices that promote human flourishing. Through collective worship, reflection and learning, children develop the wisdom to navigate challenges, value different perspectives and build life-giving relationships.
Guided by love, pupils learn to use their knowledge and understanding in ways that benefit both themselves and others.
Love in Action
The value of Love One Another is evident across school life through:
- Inclusive and nurturing relationships.
- Acts of kindness, service and generosity.
- Respect for diversity and difference.
- Forgiveness, reconciliation and restorative approaches.
- Opportunities for courageous advocacy and social action.
- Partnerships with the local church and wider community.
- Collective worship and reflection that deepen understanding of God’s love.
Flourishing Together
As a Church school, we believe that love is transformative. Through our commitment to Community, Courage and Wisdom, we seek to ensure that every member of our school community is able to flourish academically, socially, emotionally, spiritually and morally. Rooted in Christian hope and guided by God’s love, we equip our pupils to make a positive difference in the world and to live out Jesus’ call to:
“Love one another as I have loved you.” (John 13:34)
This value shapes who we are, informs what we do and enables all within our community to flourish.
