Love One Another
“Love one another as I have loved you.” (John 13:34)
At Esher Church School, our vision is rooted in Jesus’ command to love one another. This is more than a statement of intent; it is a reflection of the love God shows to humanity through Jesus Christ. We believe that every person is uniquely created in the image of God and is therefore deeply loved, valued and worthy of dignity, respect and compassion.
Our vision shapes the way we learn, worship, serve and live together. It calls us to build relationships based on kindness, forgiveness and mutual respect, creating a community where all can flourish academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually.
From this Christian vision emerge our three core values of Community, Courage and Wisdom. These values are not separate from our vision but are expressions of what it means to live out Jesus’ command to love one another.
Community
Jesus in the Temple (Luke 2:41-52)
Our value of Community is inspired by the example of Jesus, who grew and learned within a faith community and demonstrated throughout his life the importance of belonging, relationships and shared responsibility.
As followers of Christ’s example, we believe that love is lived out in community. We seek to create a culture where everyone is welcomed, known and supported, recognising that we are stronger when we work together and care for one another.
Through this value, pupils learn that being part of a community brings both privileges and responsibilities. They develop an understanding that their actions can positively influence the lives of others and that they have a role to play in building a more compassionate and just world.
Community enables us to live out the biblical teaching that we are all members of one body, each with unique gifts and talents that contribute to the flourishing of the whole.
Courage
David and Goliath (1 Samuel 17)
The story of David and Goliath reminds us that courage comes not from our own strength but from trust in God. David faced overwhelming challenges because he believed God was with him and would guide him.
At Esher Church School, we understand courage as a response to love. When we know we are loved by God and valued by others, we can face challenges with confidence, speak up for what is right and persevere when things are difficult.
Our vision encourages pupils to become courageous advocates who recognise injustice, show empathy for others and use their voice to bring about positive change. Inspired by Jesus’ own example of sacrificial love, pupils learn that courage often involves serving others, showing forgiveness and standing alongside those who may feel vulnerable or excluded.
Through courage, children develop resilience, integrity and the confidence to make a difference in the world around them.
Wisdom
Solomon’s Prayer for Wisdom (1 Kings 3:5-14)
Our value of Wisdom is rooted in the biblical account of Solomon, who asked God not for wealth or power but for wisdom to serve others well.
Christian wisdom is about more than knowledge. It involves understanding how to live well, make thoughtful choices and use our gifts in ways that honour God and benefit others.
At Esher Church School, wisdom helps children reflect on their experiences, learn from mistakes and consider the impact their decisions have on those around them. Guided by our vision of love, pupils are encouraged to think deeply, ask questions and seek understanding.
Through collective worship, reflection, prayer and learning, children develop the wisdom needed to navigate an increasingly complex world with compassion, discernment and hope.

Through our vision and values, we seek to fulfil Jesus’ call to love God and love our neighbour, ensuring that every member of our school community is able to flourish and live life in all its fullness.
As a Church of England school, we aspire to be a place where God’s love is experienced, reflected and shared, enabling all to grow in Community, act with Courage, and make wise choices through Wisdom, so that together we can truly Love One Another.
